Sequenced, rigorous and genuinely inspiring
Redwood Science Academy is one of a small number of schools worldwide authorised to offer all four International Baccalaureate programmes under one roof — the Primary Years Programme, the Middle Years Programme, the Diploma Programme and the Career-related Programme.
This unbroken continuum means a pupil who joins us in the early years may leave at eighteen with the same coherent educational philosophy woven through every year of their schooling. Concepts introduced gently in the PYP deepen through the MYP and are tested rigorously in the DP and CP, giving our graduates a breadth and durability of understanding that single-examination systems rarely achieve. The continuity also means our teachers know their pupils across multiple years — and that knowledge changes everything about how teaching is done.
Our academic culture is built around the IB Learner Profile — curious, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-taking — and we take each attribute seriously. Lessons are dialogic; assessment is always in the service of learning rather than ranking; and science sits at the heart of the school without ever narrowing the intellectual horizon. Our pupils study languages, the arts and philosophy alongside their core subjects, and do so with genuine enthusiasm because every discipline is taught with the same care and rigour as every other.
Four pathways, one philosophy
Primary Years Programme
Ages 3–11. The PYP frames early learning through six transdisciplinary themes, weaving subject knowledge into real-world inquiry. Our youngest pupils learn to ask better questions, collaborate freely and take intellectual risks in purposefully designed spaces that reward curiosity and celebrate the joy of discovery at every turn.
Middle Years Programme
Ages 11–16. The MYP builds conceptual understanding across eight subject groups, linking knowledge across disciplines and connecting learning to meaningful action in the real world. Service-learning, the Personal Project and a structured approach to study skills equip pupils for the rigour ahead while preserving a genuine love of learning.
Diploma Programme
Ages 16–18. Widely recognised by leading universities across six continents, the DP combines breadth and depth in a uniquely demanding two-year curriculum. The Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Activity, Service components develop independent scholarship alongside deep subject mastery at the highest level.
Career-related Programme
Ages 16–18. The CP combines DP subject courses with career-related study in fields such as computer science, design technology and enterprise. It is the ideal pathway for pupils with a clear professional direction who want an IB qualification that directly supports their ambitions and speaks with authority to both employers and universities.
Co-curriculars, languages and STEM
Co-curricular life at Redwood is not an afterthought — it is woven into the fabric of the school. Every pupil from MYP upwards is expected to pursue a co-curricular pathway that complements their academic programme, whether that is competitive sport, chamber music, Model United Nations, robotics or one of our forty-plus societies and clubs. The aim is simple: to build the whole person, not merely the examination candidate.
Languages deserve particular mention. We offer French, Spanish, Mandarin and German alongside English Language and Literature and English Language Acquisition, ensuring that every pupil leaves us genuinely bilingual at minimum. Our design and STEM studios — a laser-cutting laboratory, a fabrication workshop, a dedicated coding suite and a professional audio-visual studio — sit alongside traditional art and ceramics rooms, because we are convinced that the analytical and creative minds are not opposites but partners in every field that matters.
