Your Future, Our Commitment

Where ambition meets expert guidance

At Redwood Science Academy, the journey to university begins well before application season. Our dedicated College Advisory team works alongside every DP and CP student from the moment they enter the Diploma years — nurturing self-knowledge, broadening horizons and building the confidence to aim boldly for the right destination.

With each student assigned a named counsellor for the entirety of the process, our guidance is never generic. We take the time to understand individual strengths, interests and aspirations — then help translate them into compelling applications, whether the destination is Oxford or Edinburgh, MIT or Melbourne, Sciences Po or the Royal College of Music. We are equally practised in supporting aspirations that do not fit a traditional mould, and we take enormous pride in the breadth of destinations our graduates reach.

The Process

The advisory journey

From self-discovery to enrolment, our four-stage process unfolds across the MYP-to-DP transition and the two Diploma years — structured enough to keep every student on track, and personal enough to honour the uniqueness of each candidate.

Self-Discovery — MYP to DP Transition

Beginning in Year 10, students complete a strengths and interests audit with their counsellor. Career assessments, co-curricular reflection and guided conversations help each pupil articulate what genuinely excites them — forming the philosophical foundation that every strong application is built upon. This stage is intentionally unhurried; we believe the best choices begin with honest self-knowledge.

University Research

In the first year of the Diploma Programme, counsellors facilitate detailed, comparative exploration of universities, courses and countries. Students attend virtual and in-person university fairs, hear directly from Redwood alumni at leading institutions and work with their counsellor to build a preliminary shortlist that balances genuine ambition with realistic fit — across both course content and campus culture.

Applications & Essays

From UCAS personal statements to the Common Application, coalition essays and country-specific submission portals, our team provides intensive individual support at every draft. We help students find an authentic voice, meet all deadlines without undue pressure and navigate the different requirements and timelines of systems worldwide, including early decision and rolling admissions.

Offers & Transitions

Once offers arrive, we support students in evaluating choices wisely — considering academic culture, pastoral fit, financial aid implications and long-term career pathways. Our dedicated transition programme bridges the gap between the IB and university life, ensuring our graduates arrive intellectually prepared, emotionally ready and socially confident.

Personalised at every stage

Each student is matched with a counsellor whose expertise aligns with their likely destination — whether that is UK Russell Group universities, the American liberal arts system, European institutions or specialist schools such as conservatoires, art colleges and medical faculties. Formal meetings are held fortnightly during peak application season and flexibly around deadlines at other times.

Parents are kept closely informed at every milestone and are invited to dedicated counsellor-led sessions that demystify systems they may be unfamiliar with. We believe the best outcomes emerge when student, family and school are genuinely aligned — and we invest considerable effort in building that alignment from the earliest stages.
